Persian studies at UIUC

Persian Program

About the Program: The Persian language has been a staple offering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for a long time and has been nurtured by the presence of a lively population of Iranian and non-Iranian students on campus.

The Iranian Culture has also been instrumental in this endeavor as well. Students are immersed in both the language and culture of Iran, with the goal not only being reading comprehension but a command of the spoken language that makes thinking in another language a revolutionary experience. Students are further encouraged to practice their language skills and understanding of Iran by attending conversation tables, cultural events, and Persian-language films.

Currently, elementary and intermediate Persian are fully offered with a tutorial in advanced Persian. Such courses are made possible with the generous support and collaboration of Linguistics Department and the Center of South Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (CSAMES).
